FIFA wants EA to pay $1 billion to use its name

Last week, EA announced that it is considering changing the name of its FIFA football video game series to something else.

At the time, we realized that it could be due to licensing issues and found that we weren’t too wrong.

According to a report of The New York TimesIt appears that there is a small dispute between EA and FIFA over the cost and new revenue streams for the game.

apparently heFIFA wants to charge EA a whopping $1 billion every four years if you want to keep using the name, that’s double what it cost before.

FIFA also seems to want limit the amount of money EA can get from the game.

The report states that FIFA is fine with EA monetizing what can already be found in the game, but it looks like EA is exploring the possibility of monetizing other aspects of the game. like tournaments, digital products like NFTs, etc… but FIFA is reluctant.

This is the disagreement that led to EA’s announcement last week. It’s still not clear, but IGN found out that EA has registered the name “EA Sports FC”, so the chances are good that this will be the new name of the series if neither party comes to an agreement.
