FIFA wants billions from EA Sports. The FIFA name is at stake

EA Sports has already confirmed that the next title in the FIFA series may have a new name.

Negotiations between the producer of the game and the Football Federation seem to have reached a stalemate generated by the request of 2,100 million.

FIFA 22 may have been the last to include the name of the International Football Federation.

It was EA Sports itself that confirmed the news that the next title in its FIFA soccer series could have a new name. In a post celebrating 9.1 million players, the producer claimed that the FIFA name could fall.

The explanation for this was given by Cam Webber, CEO of EA Sports, who claimed that the producer was “reviewing the naming rights agreement with FIFA.” Now, it seems that the negotiations between the producer and the International Football Federation have reached a dead end.

According to the New York Times, FIFA is asking about $ 2.5 billion, about € 2.1 billion, for EA Sports to keep the FIFA name in its game. This is double the amount previously agreed between the two parties.

The value considered too high by EA Sports led the producer to consider renaming one of its most profitable titles. For now, EA Sports FC appears to be the name to be adopted as the producer has already filed UK and European Union patent applications on the matter.

On the other hand, according to the New York Times, FIFA also wants the exclusive license for EA Sports. In other words, you also want access to video game rights for a new source of income.

A name change in a soccer video game is nothing new. Remember that Konami recently dropped the Pro Evolution Soccer name to adopt the new name of eFootball. Will EA EA Sports FC attract the millions of title players?
