FIFA announced Wednesday the creation of a new annual award aimed at recognizing individuals who promote peace and unity through their commitment and actions worldwide.
Called the “FIFA Peace Award – Football Unites the World,” the distinction will honor those who have contributed to global unity.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that in an “increasingly unstable and divided world, it is fundamental to recognize the extraordinary contribution of those who work to end conflicts and unite people in a spirit of peace.”
Infantino is scheduled to present the inaugural award on December 5. The ceremony will take place during the final draw for the 2026 World Cup in Washington D.C., United States.
The award will be granted annually. It aims to represent all football enthusiasts globally who contribute daily to the organization’s motto: “Football unites the world.”
Through this initiative, FIFA seeks to strengthen football’s social and symbolic significance. The sport is viewed as an instrument for global unity and peace promotion.
