A new chapter has opened for Ismael Gharbi. FIFA has given the green light, meaning the Sp. Braga winger can now play for Tunisia. The international football body made a favorable decision. This allows Gharbi to change his national team association. The 21-year-old player’s name is already on FIFA’s official platform. The final decision was made just this Tuesday. Until now, Gharbi had played for Spain’s youth teams. Now, he is eligible to represent the North African nation.
Gharbi’s journey through international football has been unique. He started by playing for France’s Under-18 squad. Later, he wore the jerseys for Spain’s Under-18 and Under-19 teams. Gharbi was born in Paris, France. His mother is Spanish, and his father is Tunisian. This mixed heritage now leads him down a new path. He can build his senior national team career representing the Maghreb country.
Despite this international breakthrough, Gharbi’s future at Sp. Braga is uncertain. He has not played much under coach Carlos Vicens. Since the official season started, he has only made two appearances. He came on as a substitute when the team visited Levski Sofia. He also started in the home game against Tondela. With Gabri MartÃnez back from injury, Gharbi has even less playing time. He was not even in the squad list for the recent match against Alverca.
Because of this, a move for Gharbi this summer seems more likely. RMC Sport, a French media outlet, first reported this possibility. Gharbi has a long contract with Sp. Braga, set to run until 2029. He also has a release clause of 35 million euros. While one door opens for him on the international stage, his club situation suggests another might soon close.
