FIFA 22 could be the last FIFA game

EA Sports is considering dropping the FIFA brand in the title of its soccer video games.

Patent applications filed in the UK and the European Union seem to indicate that the producer already has a new name for one of its most played titles.

The announcement of the name change was made by Electronic Arts itself.

Apparently Electronic Arts’ most played soccer game will even change its name, removing the word FIFA. The communication appeared in an EA Sports publication celebrating the success of the launch of FIFA 22 which already has 9.1 million players.

The post signed by the group’s general manager Cam Webber says the brand is exploring the idea of renaming its soccer games. According to the same Webber publication, this means that they are “reviewing the naming rights agreement with FIFA”, something that “is separate from all other associations and official licenses in the world of football.”

This specific part of the announcement came to reassure fans, as the brand ensures that the next title will keep the more than 17,000 athletes from more than 700 soccer clubs, as well as the 100 stadiums and more than 30 current leagues.

The title for 2023 could be called EA Sports FC

Meanwhile, patent applications filed in the UK and the European Union are leading to rumors that the next title for 2023 could be called EA Sports FC. For now, he is ignoring you, but with millions of players involved, the name is very likely to quickly gain popularity.

Since 1993, EA Sports video games dedicated to soccer have included the word FIFA in their name. However, over the years the name of the International Football Federation has suffered several shakes, due to the fact that high officials of this association have been accused of corruption. Sony was one of the brands that dropped the sponsorship of FIFA and EA Sports may be revising the name for the same reason.

On the other hand, Electronic Arts may also be following the lead of its competitor Konami, who recently changed the name of Pro Evolution Soccer to eFootball.
