Following the decision taken on March 1 and confirmed by the Central Board on March 25 not to allow the participation of Russian teams and referees in FIBA and 3×3 competition, the Executive Committee has confirmed the following decisions regarding the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) and the Belarusian Basketball Federation (FBB) that will take place in the coming months:
-No official FIBA competitions will be held in Russia or Belarus until further notice
-The RBF and FBB teams will be withdrawn from the following FIBA National Team competitions:
FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers: Russia (Group H) and Belarus (B) are withdrawn and there will be no replacements. Consequently, all the matches played by both teams are canceled and therefore the three remaining teams in each group advance to the next phase. To unify the classification of the other two groups involved, since G and H on the one hand and A and B on the other meet in the next phase forming new groups (L and I), the results against the last classified final in A and in the G they will not be taken into account for the next decisive phase.
Women’s World Cup U17. Russia is withdrawn and its place in the event that will take place in Hungary from July 9 to 17 will be occupied by Serbia, second in group B of the FIBA U16 European Challenger 2021 and the only second classified of any group that did not obtain a ticket.
Women’s World Cup 2022. Russia will be replaced at the meeting that will take place in Australia from September 22 to October 1 by Puerto Rico, as decided in March.
RBF and BBF teams will be excluded from the following FIBA 3×3 National Team competitions:
FIBA World Cup 3×3 2022. Russia will not participate and their place will be taken by the following teams in the ranking: Israel in the women’s and Slovenia in the men’s.
FIBA 3×3 U23 Nations League 2022. Russia will not participate and will have no replacement.
FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup (qualifying) 2022. Belarus will not participate in the qualifier and its seat will not be filled; Russia will not be in the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup 2022 and its replacement will come through the qualifier
FIBA 3×3 U17 Europe Cup qualifiers 2022. Belarus will not participate and there will be no relay.
FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2022. Belarus will not participate. The next ranked team: Belgium (women) and Lithuania (men) will be invited to participate.
Teams representing teams or cities from Russia or Belarus, as well as players from Russia and Belarus, will not be able to register and the following FIBA 3×3 Pro Circuit competitions will not be played in Russia or Belarus:
FIBA 3×3 World Tour, FIBA 3×3 Challengers and FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series. Finally, the FIBA Board of the Europe Zone and the Basketball Champions League have been invited to make the corresponding decisions on the national team and club competitions and they will be announced in the coming days. FIBA will continue to closely monitor the situation in order to continue making decisions when necessary.
