The oldest Spanish Formula 1 driver leaves on the table all the potholes that his team must overcome to improve performance
With the first third of the season already over, Aston Martin continues in the battle for the runner-up of the World of Builders thanks to Fernando Alonso. However, Lance Stroll is being an obstacle in the competition with Ferrari and, above all, Mercedes. Fernando Alonso, for his part, has six podium finishes in eight races and 117 points, a dramatic contrast to his teammate Lance Stroll’s 37 points.
Lance Stroll has only contributed 24% of the points totals from a team that is in a direct fight with Mercedes and Ferrari for second place in the constructors’ championship. This data is surprising if we compare it with what happens in the rival teams of Aston Martin. In this way, he questions the continuity of the pilot within his father’s team.

Fernando Alonso talks about Lance Stroll
in mercedes, George Russell contributes 39% of the team’s points, while at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc adds 44%. The rival teams have a much more balanced pair of drivers, essential for the constructors’ championship. Thus, Fernando Alonso spoke of his teammate during his participation in the Canadian Grand Prix, where he fought for victory while the Canadian settled for ninth place.
Although the Asturian does not doubt the quality and speed of Lance Stroll, pointed out that “Lance must have regularity weekend after weekend. He has other weekends in which the results do not arrive, that the qualifying is not good and compromises the race ”. Stroll’s inconsistency has been a recurring problem throughout the season.
The data supports Alonso’s theory
This year, while Alonso has been present in all Q3 of the season, Stroll has been eliminated in Q1 once and in Q2 twice. This means that Fernando Alonso achieves an average position in the classification second only to Max Verstappen (3.9 vs 4.2), while Lance Stroll remains with an average position of tenth place. In addition, the two-time champion has four second positions as the best result in qualifying, while Stroll settles for two fifth places. The comparison between both pilots of Aston Martin makes clear Alonso’s superiority in terms of performance and consistency.
The only time Lance Stroll has surpassed Fernando Alonso this year it was at the Spanish Grand Prix. However, despite Stroll’s performance this season, Fernando Alonso has shown his confidence in the Canadian driver on several occasions. “I think Lance’s next goal is to get a regular top five position,” Fernando Alonso says of his teammate.
