Fernández and Peguero guide the Giants against Águilas

Pedro Fernández pitched 5 solid innings and Liover Peguero homered, to guide the Giants to a 7-1 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas, in the first game at the Cibao Stadium of the 2022/2023 tournament, dedicated to the memory of Don Tomas Troncoso.

The two Cibao teams divided the two-game miniseries that played Saturday and Sunday in alternate venues.

Fernández scored his first victory of the season, while imported David Holmberg was the loser.

The visitors attacked early with two turns in the second inning, product of a home run to left field by Liover Peguero with Webster Rivas in circulation, who had hit unstoppable.

They added another streak in the third due to a single by Moisés Sierra and a double by Richard Ureña, to make it 3-0.

The fourth inning was five hits as the Giants took the game off 5-0. The feast was started by Melvin Mercedes with a hit and after one out came 4 consecutive machine gunshots, with Henry Urrutia, Moisés Sierra Seuly Matías and Leandro Castro, although they left the bases loaded.

Pedro Fernández fulfilled his quota of 5.0 scoreless innings supported by the early advantage, faced 19 batters, three hits, did not grant a base, hit one and fanned 8 rivals.

Then Alex Tovalin (6), Enrique Burgos (7), José Rafael Diaz (7), Fernando Rodney (8) and Enmanuel Mejía (9) pitched.

The locals started with David Holmberg, who only lasted 3 innings, 3 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

In addition to Liover Peguero’s home run for the winners, Henry Urrutia fired three rockets, Richard Ureña and Eury Pérez, double and single; Moisés Sierra, Seuly Matías and Webster Rivas, two of a base and with an unstoppable Leandro Castro and Melvin Mercedes.

Orlando Calixte was the best of the losers with a triple and a single, Yoenis Céspedes, Alexander Canario, Michael Pérez and Deivy Grullón, an unstoppable one.
