The Fencing Associations of San Pedro de Macorís, the Santo Domingo Province and the National District announced their support for the decision of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) to suspend the Executive Committee of the Dominican Fencing Federation.
“We make this support due to the recurring statutory violations, the disrespect of the Assembly of Associations, total ignorance of the technical aspects of this sport, and the indelicate use of public funds,” said the leaders in a statement to the media.
For her part, Gleni Samuel, president of the San Pedro de Macorís Fencing Association, expressed: “I have experienced firsthand the arbitrary and abusive way that the Executive Committee of FEDOMES, headed by its suspended president and the general secretary, trampled on all my rights, just for denouncing all the technical and administrative irregularities that were happening within the federation.”
And he added: “We must support the Executive Committee of the Dominican Olympic Committee that has had the firm decision to separate each one of these people, who have only demonstrated since their arrival the incompetence and inability to manage a sports institution, without any type of pruritus”.
Luis Luna Yorro, president of the Santo Domingo Province Fencing Association, argued in the same way: “Our Dominican Fencing Federation has been going through a deep crisis for a long time, and this is the opportunity that all fencers have to turn this challenge into an opportunity, in order to relaunch it under the values and principles that gave us origin. We congratulate and support the determination of the Dominican Olympic Committee to suspend the current Executive Committee, since we have been fighting for the institutionality of FEDOMES for years.”
Finally, Gilberto Soriano, president of the Fencing Association of the National District argued: “All of the national public opinion knows that everything that has been done in the Dominican Fencing Federation is contrary to the statutes, regulations, laws and Olympic values; therefore, the decision taken must be supported by all those who ensure transparency, institutionality and order in our institution. We will work together in the search to restore the path of a new federation led by the fencing family under the values that gave rise to us”.
