Fedoboxa will celebrate International Boxing Day this Saturday

The Dominican Federation of Amateur Boxing (Fedoboxa) commemorates this Saturday, August 27, International Boxing Day with a series of activities that includes an act with the presence of the Minister of Sports, the president of the Olympic Committee and great historical boxing figures from the Dominican Republic.

The act will take place from 9:00 in the morning in the boxing gym located in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

The emblematic boxers Félix Díaz, winner of a gold medal in the Olympic Games, and Miguelina Hernández, the first woman to fight for that discipline in an Olympic Games, will lead the group of athletes who will attend such an important activity.

The words of welcome will be pronounced by Mr. Rubén García, president of Fedoboxa. He will touch on the importance of commemorating that day, which was determined by the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA). Then the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Mr. Antonio Acosta, will follow.

The central turn will be for the Minister of Sports, engineer Francisco Camacho. The coach of the national team Armando Hernández will continue; the athlete Hernández, who represented the country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic event, and the gold medalist Díaz, who won his medal in Beijing 2008, will close as a speaker.

The president of the federation indicated that the participation of most of the Dominican boxers who have historically won medals or have had an outstanding participation in world championships, Pan American games and Central American and Caribbean games, in addition to the Olympics, is expected.

The date chosen for this International Boxing Day, August 27, was made as a reminder of the first edition of the AIBA World Boxing Championship, which took place in Havana (Cuba), on that same day in 1974.

AIBA President Umar Kremlev indicated that International Boxing Day is a celebration for all those committed to this sport. This includes not only amateurs, but also professional boxers, and anyone looking to get into boxing. "If you have stepped foot in a ring, you are part of the boxing family, and therefore International Boxing Day is also your party."said.
