Kevin Federline claims he witnessed Britney Spears using cocaine while she was still breastfeeding their children in 2006. These explosive allegations are detailed in Federline’s upcoming memoir, “You Thought You Knew.” The book is set to be released on Tuesday, October 21.
Federline, now 47, alleges the incident occurred during the launch party for his 2006 album, “Playing With Fire.” He recounts Spears arrived unexpectedly after telling him she would stay home with their sons.
Upon entering his dressing room, Federline reportedly found Spears, her brother Bryan Spears, her agent Jason Trawick, and an anonymous actress. He claims he observed Spears and the actress snorting cocaine from a coffee table. Both women were allegedly wearing “outrageous wigs,” with Spears’s described as electric blue.
At the time, their sons Sean Preston was 13 months old and Jayden James was just one month old. Both children were reportedly being breastfed. The National Library of Medicine advises a minimum 24-hour delay in breastfeeding after cocaine use for safety.
Federline states he confronted Spears that night, urging her not to breastfeed the children after using drugs. He recalls telling her to “call your mom or someone. We need formula. You can’t do this.” Spears allegedly responded by throwing a cocktail in his face before leaving the party.
He identifies this moment, and Spears’s reaction, as “the last straw” that led to their divorce. Federline immediately contacted his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, to send a legal letter demanding she cease breastfeeding. Days later, Spears’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, reportedly drafted divorce papers.
Their divorce was finalized in 2007, with Federline later granted sole custody of their children.
Spears recently disputed Federline’s claims in a lengthy social media post on X. She called his allegations “constant psychological manipulation,” describing it as “extremely painful and exhausting.” Spears added that these “lies” will benefit him financially while she suffers.
Her representative also issued a statement last week to Us Weekly. The rep stated that Federline and others are profiting at Spears’s expense, especially after the end of child support payments. The representative emphasized Spears’s sole focus is the wellbeing of her children.
Federline defended his memoir in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. He denied the book is an attempt to profit, stating, “Money is not the root of this.” He asserted his right to tell his story, similar to Spears.
Us Weekly reached out to Bryan Spears and Jason Trawick for comments regarding the allegations.
It is worth noting that during her divorce from Federline, Spears was ordered to undergo random drug and alcohol tests, which she passed. In her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” Spears wrote she “never had interest in hard drugs.” She admitted to abusing Adderall but clarified it “was never as out of control as the press made it seem.”
