Federation of Merchants asks to suspend the rise in cement

The Dominican Federation of Merchants (FDC) requested this Thursday the suspension of the possible increase in the price of cement of about RD$30.00 per case.

The president of the FDC, Iván García, asked the Dominican cement industry not to pay, explaining that it continues to fall, the value of a barrel of oil and the dollar is stable.

Garcia said that for this time, the price of Christmas products will be sold fairly.

However, he described as “discordant” before this scenario, the announcement of the increase in the price of cement.

García commented that this material is marketed among RD$470 and RD$475 for the cover, but with the increase it will reach between RD$500 and RD$510which in turn would increase the cost of housing in the Dominican Republic by 2%.

The Association of Home Builders and Promoters (Acoprovi) confirmed that an increase in the price of cement will take place this week.

The institution informed Listín Diario that this measure was notified to suppliers, builders, and housing developers, as well as a group of that entity.
