February towards another record in tourist reception

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, reported yesterday that 290,000 tourists have entered the country so far in February.

According to Collado, the figure is “extremely high”, compared to those obtained in previous years, which is why the projections are intensified to establish this month with a new record in the reception of tourists.

“As of today, some two hundred and ninety thousand foreigners have entered the country, which is an extremely strong figure compared to previous years; We are very happy, ”he said.

Likewise, the minister indicated that only yesterday 21,852 foreigners arrived.

On the occasion of a visit to the Ministry of Tourism by the general secretary of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Julia Simpson, Collado assured that February is going “extremely strong”, so that the country “is going to exceed six hundred thousand foreigners , airway”.

Regarding cruise tourism, Collado said that it is about to exceed 150,000 visitors, meanwhile tourism is expected to break records for air and sea visits.

“As far as the projections go, we will have a record month in February, both in air and cruise tourism,” Collado concluded.

For her part, Julia Simpson paid a courtesy visit to Minister Collado’s office to assess tourism developments worldwide and study the possibility of developing future joint plans and projects.

According to Collado, the representative of the international forum, recognized as the most important in the private tourism sector, is in the country for the first time and will see “that the Dominican Republic has it all.”

Also present at the meeting was David Llibre, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), who celebrated that the private entity he runs has signed an agreement with the WTTC to be part of them.

“As Asonahores we are very happy to confirm our agreement to be part of the WTTC, consulate of the world of tourism,” he said, adding that the fact that an association like Asonahores, leader in the Dominican Republic, is part of the WTTC, ” It influences the way they see us as a country and destination.”

Similarly, Llibre stated that they will hold a working session “to continue growing together with the sector”.
