FC Porto Signs Javian Davis, Portuguese Basketball League MVP Center

Javian Davis

FC Porto made a splash this Tuesday. The basketball club announced a major new signing. They brought in American center Javian Davis. He was the most valuable player (MVP) in the Portuguese basketball league last season.

Davis arrives from Imortal BC, where he truly stood out. Porto’s website praised their new player. They noted his powerful build. He will bring height and athleticism to the team. His presence will be especially strong near the basket. Fernando Sá will continue coaching the team. Davis is the first new face for his squad.

The 25-year-old big man stands tall at 2.06 meters. He had a dominant season with Imortal. Davis averaged 16.6 points per game. He also pulled down 8.9 rebounds on average. These numbers came in the country’s top league.

Davis’s journey to MVP status is quite a story. The Mississippi native spent his entire college career in the United States. He never played professionally before joining Imortal in Albufeira. His first pro season was incredibly successful. He immediately became the league’s MVP.

Porto knows Davis’s quality firsthand. They faced him as an opponent last season. In one game, he put on a clinic against them. He delivered a double-double performance. Davis ended that game with 30 points and 16 rebounds. That kind of impact is what Porto hopes to see from him.

Before his time with Imortal, Davis played NCAA college basketball. He wore the uniform for several prominent teams. He was with the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2019-20 season. Then he moved to the Mississippi State Bulldogs from 2020 to 2022. His final college stop was with the UAB Blazers, from 2022 to 2024.
