FC Porto has been fined approximately $14,750 by Portuguese football authorities for fan disturbances and an unauthorized stadium announcement during a recent league game.
The largest portion of the penalty, totaling roughly $8,240, was levied against the club for actions by the stadium’s public address announcer. This individual used the sound system to encourage fans to cheer for the team in the final minutes of the match.
Another substantial fine, about $5,508, resulted from supporters setting off pyrotechnic devices. These included flares and firecrackers during the game.
The use of pyrotechnics caused a significant delay in the match restart. A report by the referee and league delegate noted the game was halted for 1 minute and 45 seconds. This was to allow smoke to clear and visibility to improve.
An additional fine of approximately $1,377 was imposed for the club’s “non-observance of other duties.” This penalty specifically addressed the unauthorized entry of pyrotechnic devices into the Estádio do Dragão.
The infractions occurred during FC Porto’s 1-0 victory over Estoril. The match was part of the 12th round of the Liga Portugal season.
