FC Porto Edges Benfica in Pursuit of European Champion Goalkeeper Conti Acevedo

FC Porto is closing in on a deal to sign Conti Acevedo, the 27-year-old goalkeeper who just won the European championship with Óquei Clube de Barcelos.
Acevedo is also the starter for Argentina’s national team, which won the world title in 2022 and finished as runner-up last year.
He’s considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Right now, Acevedo is facing off against his future team in the national championship playoffs, with FC Porto up 1-0.
The team has been ahead of Benfica in the pursuit of Acevedo in recent weeks.
Benfica had a preliminary agreement with Acevedo last year, but it’s not valid since his contract with Óquei Clube de Barcelos runs until 2026.

Benfica was willing to pay to get Acevedo out of his contract, but the team ultimately decided not to pay the around 50,000 euros needed to bring him to Lisbon next season.
FC Porto is now poised to sign Acevedo for next season.
The team’s current goalkeeper, Xavier Malián, has one year left on his contract, but he’s likely to return to his old team in Spain, HC Liceo, which would open up the goalkeeper spot for Acevedo.

FC Porto’s move to sign Acevedo is a significant one, given the team’s current position in the playoffs and the goalkeeper’s impressive credentials.
With Acevedo on board, FC Porto could be looking at a major boost to their chances of winning the championship.
The team’s fans will be watching closely to see how the deal plays out and what it means for the future of the team.
