FC Porto backs comedian Nuno Markl after stroke with player-name pun: ‘Rodrilan Morela’

Portuguese comedian and television personality Nuno Markl is recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke, drawing an outpouring of public support that includes a unique message from football club FC Porto.

The football club posted a message on Instagram, creating a playful pun by blending the names of its players, Alan Varela and Rodrigo Mora, into “Rodrilan Morela.” This creative tribute referenced Markl’s known habit of forming similar name combinations on the Portuguese version of the television show ‘Taskmaster.’

“A collective we like to call Rodrilan Morela,” the club wrote in its post.

Candido Costa, a fellow cast member on the RTP humor program ‘Taskmaster’, also expressed his solidarity via Instagram. “My friend, we will still open many envelopes,” Costa wrote. “Nuno is a diamond, a sensitive and kind human being like I have never met in my life. Strength Nuno Markl, we need you very much.”

Markl’s condition requires careful monitoring, as the initial 48 hours following a stroke are considered vital.

Despite the caution, Markl reportedly had a good night and woke up in good spirits, according to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã. The current assessment suggests no severe effects from the stroke.

He continues to undergo medical examinations and remains hospitalized under complete rest.
