Barcelona are ready to step up their efforts in the January transfer window and are reportedly eyeing Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest. The 19-year-old Brazilian has become a potential target for the Blaugrana as they look to strengthen their midfield.
Despite being on loan at Nottingham Forest, Santos’ time at the City Ground did not go to plan. He was regularly left out of Premier League teams and only made his debut in a brief cameo against Liverpool at the end of October. The arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo as new coach could change their situation, but Chelsea are reportedly considering bringing him back in January, opening the door for Barcelona to intervene.
Andrey Santos, new option for FC Barcelona’s midfield
Barcelona sporting director Deco has a solid relationship with Santos’ agent Giuliano Bertolucci, which could benefit the Blaugrana in potential negotiations. Barcelona see Santos as a potential successor to Sergio Busquets and believe he would fit well into Xavi Hernandez’s system.
Although Barcelona explored the possibility of a loan deal for Santos in July, they ultimately decided to sign Oriol Romeu. However, due to Gavi’s injury, Barcelona could reconsider Santos as an important option to strengthen the midfield. With outstanding ball control skills, the ability to evade pressure and a versatile approach in both box-to-box and defensive positions, Santos presents himself as an attractive option for the Blaugrana in the second half of the season.
