The world of esports never stays still. Fans of the FaZe Counter-Strike team got a jolt last Friday, the 22nd. Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski, a respected player, was moved to the bench. This means he’s no longer actively playing for the team. FaZe quickly brought in Jakub “jcobbb” Pietruszewski from Poland to take his spot. EliGE had only joined FaZe in January 2025, making this a very quick change.
FaZe Clan’s captain, Finn “karrigan” Andersen, weighed in on the sudden player switch. He explained that there wasn’t one single reason for the change. Karrigan described it as a mutual decision. “Nobody was happy,” he said, adding, “he wasn’t happy, we weren’t happy.” He felt it was the best path forward for everyone involved. Karrigan hopes EliGE lands on another great team soon. He recognized EliGE’s individual skill but pointed out that sometimes players and team goals just don’t align. When that happens, the team’s results often fall short of expectations.
EliGE has a strong history in competitive Counter-Strike. He spent a long time with Team Liquid, playing there from March 2015 until June 2023. After that, he moved to Complexity and stayed until January 2025, right before joining FaZe. His experience is well-known across the scene.
FaZe’s Recent Performance at BLAST Open London
Despite the roster shuffle, FaZe got right back into the action. This past Wednesday, the 27th, they competed against ECSTATIC at the BLAST Open London tournament. FaZe came out on top, winning their best-of-three match with a 2-1 score. They showed impressive dominance with a perfect 13-0 win on the Dust2 map and a hard-fought overtime victory on Inferno. The team is now waiting to see who they will face next. Their upcoming opponent on Friday, the 29th, will be the winner of the match between Natus Vincere and fnatic.
