Farhan Akhtar recently opened up about a comment from veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah that goes back nearly 12 years. Farhan explained why he never talked to Naseer about it. This discussion comes as Farhan is busy promoting his upcoming film, 120 Bahadur.
It turns out Farhan believes Naseeruddin Shah does not respect him. This feeling stems from a public remark Naseer made about Farhan’s films over a decade ago. Farhan recently shared his thoughts during a chat with Galatta Plus.
When asked if he spoke to Naseeruddin Shah after the comments, Farhan said he felt no need to. He explained his view on giving professional feedback. Farhan mentioned he’s been in the film industry for 25 years. He knows many actors, directors, and writers who started their careers even ten years after him. If he sees something in their work that he thinks could be better, or if he has advice, he truly picks up the phone and calls them. He believes this is important because you are stepping into someone’s creative space. You are giving them your creative opinion.
A Matter of Respect
Farhan feels that feedback, especially criticism, should always be given with respect. He believes Naseeruddin Shah’s comments did not come from a place of respect. Farhan felt it was just a public statement. He wondered why he should reach out to someone who doesn’t respect him.

Farhan also pointed to his family ties and shared professional history with Naseeruddin Shah. He said that considering their connections, Naseer could have easily talked to him directly. Farhan noted that Naseer knows his father, Javed Akhtar, and his stepmother, Shabana Azmi, as well as his mother. They also worked together in the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Farhan thought it would have been simple for Naseer to say, "I want to talk to you, why don’t you come over?"
The Original Comment
Naseeruddin Shah’s remarks, which Farhan is now addressing, were made in 2013 during an interview with the Times of India. Back then, Naseer had said he didn’t like Farhan Akhtar’s films at all. However, he did mention he really enjoyed Farhan’s first film, Dil Chahta Hai.

Naseer further praised Farhan as an "excellent person" with "many qualities." He even joked that he wouldn’t be surprised if Farhan became an amazing cook. He highlighted Farhan’s versatility, noting that he sings, acts, directs, and writes. Naseer ended his comments by saying he appreciates Farhan, even if he isn’t a huge fan of his acting or films.
Farhan’s Upcoming Project
On the work front, Farhan Akhtar will next be seen in a film called 120 Bahadur. This movie is based on real events from the India-China war. It is set to release in cinemas on November 21. Raashi Khanna will also appear in a main role alongside Farhan Akhtar.
