Farense Dominates Lower-Tier Marco 09 3-0 in Portuguese Cup

Farense secured its place in the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup with a decisive 3-0 victory over third-tier Marco 09 on Saturday, largely settling the match in a dominant first half.

André Candeias opened the scoring in the 34th minute, quickly followed by Balla Sangaré’s goal just three minutes later. This established a commanding 2-0 lead for the second-division side by halftime.

The rapid burst of goals ensured Farense, from Portugal’s second tier, never faced a serious threat to their progression in the cup competition. Coach Jorge Silas’s team managed the game comfortably even as the pace slowed in the second half.

Darío Poveda sealed the comprehensive win in the 86th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error from the disorganized home side.

The match, held at the Estádio Municipal de Marco de Canaveses, saw Marco 09’s challenge further hampered when Bruno Guimarães was sent off in the 82nd minute for accumulated yellow cards.

Farense had started the encounter with high pressure, keeping Marco 09 largely in their own defensive third. Candeias’s goal came from a precise cross by Sangaré following a left-wing transition.

Sangaré’s own strike deflected off a defender’s heel from outside the box, deceiving the goalkeeper.

Despite Farense easing off after the break, Marco 09 struggled to create clear opportunities. Valentim Sousa notably missed an open goal in the 50th minute, representing their most significant chance.

The final goal saw Franco Romero intercept a midfield pass and set Poveda through on goal. The Spanish forward calmly finished past the opposing custodian. Approximately 500 spectators attended the match.
