Julio César Falcioni will not continue as Independiente coach next year. The red leadership led by Hugo Moyano chose not to renew the 65-year-old DT’s contract and will make it official in the next few hours.
The technician’s link with the Avellaneda entity ends next Friday, December 31 and the decision was made after several talks between the directors and Daniel “Rolfi” Montenegro, the current sports advisor of the club.
The “Emperor” thus closes his second stage in Independiente, with 50 matches directed: 21 victories, 14 draws, 15 defeats and 51.3 percent of the points obtained. In addition, he got the team into the 2022 South American Cup, a red custom in recent years.
Despite living with constant criticism during his cycle, Falcioni managed to give Independiente some stability after several frustrations from the team in terms of coaches following the departure of Ariel Holan in mid-2019.
After the departure of the winner of the Sudamericana 2017, they followed short cycles of Sebastián Beccacece (just 16 games and 52 percent effective) and Lucas Pusineri (27 and 49 percent), with intermediate internships of Fernando Berón you enter the exits of one and the other.
Falcioni had already directed Independiente in the 2005/06 season, remaining forever as the coach who blew up Sergio “Kun” Agüero, who scored 18 of the 23 goals he scored for Rojo under his command.
Before the departure of Falcioni, the candidate who has the advantage to replace him is Eduardo Domínguez, who recently dissociated himself from Colón de Santa Fe.
