Facebook gaat non-fungible token functionaliteiten krijgen

In the future, Facebook will also support non-fungible tokens (NFT) on the platform through a separate “digital collectibles” tab, or a dedicated page for digital collections, on the artist’s timeline. In this way, the artists and designers of NFTs can show their work.

Facebook’s launch of NFTs isn’t a surprise, though, as Meta, Facebook’s parent company, announced in May that they would begin testing NFTs on Instagram and Facebook would follow suit soon, said CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Not only Facebook gets NFT functionalities

Other apps that fall under the Meta umbrella, such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, will eventually get NFT functionalities, Zuckerberg added.

Navdeep Singh, technical program manager at Meta, showed in a screenshot on Twitter on Thursday what this page would look like.

The spokesperson for Meta has TechCrunch told that the launch of NFTs on Facebook will go through several phases. The first phase will only consist of artists from the United States.

If that all works properly, it will be expanded further and further. Eventually, NFT designers will even be able to create a post on both Facebook and Instagram. Instagram is also currently experimenting with NFTs on their Spark AR augmented reality platform.

Instagram goes to the next NFT phase

Instagram has also expanded its NFT experiment from just the United States to an international audience. In this trial, NFTs of the Ethereum (ETH) and Polygon (MATIC) blockchains can be shown. The plan is also to add the Solana (SOL) and Flow blockchains.

Facebook, as we know by now, changed its name to Meta in October 2021. They did this because they wanted to do more in the Web3 sector. However, not all of Meta’s projects were a success. It now seems that Meta wants to bet hard on the NFT hype.
