Facebook is considering renaming its company to reflect its new approach: building the metaverse.

All because Mark Zuckerberg does not want the company to be known only for its social network and all the controversies in which it has been involved recently. The information is being advanced by the British website The Verge, which cites sources close to the company.

By changing the name of the brand that would be based on the name change, Zuckerberg could achieve two goals. The first is to position the social network Facebook as one of the many products managed by the company, as is already the case with Instagram and WhatsApp. Second, it would get the company to reflect its current work approach: the creation of the metaverse, an ecosystem where the real and the virtual are mixed through Augmented Reality equipment and services.

And the announcement of the name change can already be anticipated at the next annual Connect conference, scheduled for October 28, by Mark Zuckerberg himself.

But there is no doubt that Mark Zuckerberg is fully committed and investing heavily in creating the metaverse ecosystem. In his latest statements to the media, Zuckerberg even assumed that he believes this will be the next big chapter in the evolution of the Internet, after the introduction of the mobile Internet.

We are talking about Horizon Workrooms platforms that work for work meetings and that include Virtual Reality technology through glasses created for this purpose. This service has been in existence for five years and, according to available data, has seven million employees.

The name change isn’t exactly new among today’s tech giants. Remember that in 2015, Google adopted the same strategy, reorganizing itself under the company Alphabet Inc. Everything so that it was not only associated with its famous search engine.
