Facebook begins testing Ethereum and Polygon NFTs on profiles

Meta, the former Facebook, has started introducing NFTs for some American artists on the Facebook platform.

Facebook starts with Ethereum and Polygon NFTs, but quickly adds Solana and Flow, according to a Meta representative opposite news website Decrypt.

Product manager Navdeep Singh shares first images

Meta product manager Navdeep Singh shared the first images of NFTs on Facebook on Wednesday. Funnily enough, Singh did that via Twitter and not via Facebook or Instagram. Based on Singh’s post, it appears that users are getting a “digital collectibles” tab on their profile where they can showcase their NFT collection.

Users can connect their crypto wallets to their Facebook profiles. In addition, it will be possible to turn NFTs into a Facebook post that others can then respond to, leave a like or share the post. According to tech and media consultant Martin Bryant Meta clearly wants to offer a home to the Web3 audience.

Previously NFTs on Instagram

The social media giant has already started rolling out NFTs on Instagram for a limited group of artists in “a handful” of countries, the Meta representative confirmed to Decrypt. In a previous announcement, Instagram shared that NFTs posted or shared in the app tag both the creator and the owner. Instagram will not charge money to display NFTs in the app.

Instagram is obviously the perfect platform for NFTs. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, previously indicated that Instagram wants to do things with NFTs because of the growing “creator” economy. “We really think it’s an interesting opportunity for a group of artists – the idea of being able to own a unique digital asset,” thus Mosseri in May. It would be fantastic for the market if Meta could give things a boost with their Facebook and Instagram.
