Borussia Dortmund climbed to third in the Bundesliga standings after a 2-1 victory over rivals Bayer Leverkusen, with substitute Fábio Silva providing a decisive assist.
The win moved Dortmund to 25 points in the league table. It also snapped Leverkusen’s impressive four-match winning streak across all competitions.
Portuguese international Fábio Silva entered the game in the 65th minute. Soon after, he delivered the pass for Karim Adeyemi’s go-ahead goal, which proved to be the winner.
Leverkusen, which had secured two consecutive Bundesliga victories before this loss, now occupies fourth place with 23 points.
Dortmund’s first goal was scored by Aaron Anselmino in the 41st minute. Leverkusen responded with a goal from Kofane in the 83rd minute, narrowing the deficit.
The victory ended a two-game winless streak for Dortmund in Bundesliga play. The match was part of the league’s 12th round.
Stuttgart, currently trailing Dortmund, could draw level on 25 points if they win their upcoming Sunday fixture against Hamburg.
