F1 Drivers Show Support for Ralf Schumacher’s Homosexuality Declaration
At the Hungarian Grand Prix’s FIA press conference, F1 drivers Fernando Alonso, Oscar Piastri, and Alex Albon were asked about the recent news of Ralf Schumacher’s declaration of homosexuality.
The topic of discussion was actually Ralf Schumacher’s brother, Michael, who has been married to his wife Cora for many years and has a son, David Schumacher, a fellow F1 driver. However, it is important to note that Ralf Schumacher is the fourth F1 driver to declare his homosexuality, and the first to do so publicly.
When questioned about Ralf’s news, Nico Hulkenberg was the first to speak, saying, "It is a very personal matter, but I congratulate him and if he is going with that, there is nothing wrong in these modern times, where diversity and inclusion are everything."
Hulkenberg also acknowledged that the news may generate some adverse reactions, saying, "There will always be haters, hate in the world, especially on the networks, which is a place where people abuse… It’s easy to get away from it because they can hide and that’s not great, it’s not fantastic. Apart from that, yeah, everything’s fine."
Oscar Piastri also expressed his support for Ralf, saying, "I think it’s great that you feel comfortable coming out like that. I think that’s what we want as athletes, that sport is inclusive for everyone and people feel safe to come out or whatever happens in their lives. So yeah, congratulations to him and I think that’s a good thing."
Fernando Alonso, who drove alongside Ralf Schumacher in F1, also offered his support, saying, "I think the same. Congratulations to him. He has my full support. and I’m sure the entire F1 community. Yes, it’s great that he feels good and we all feel good for him too."
