Explosion in Poland would be due to Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense, says Belgian minister

The explosion registered in Poland on Tuesday and which caused the death of two people was due in principle to the action of the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense with the intention of intercepting Russian missiles, the Belgian Defense Minister said in a statement on Wednesday.

"According to available information, the attacks were the result of Ukrainian air defense systems, used to counter Russian missiles."said Minister Ludivine Dedonder, who added that the episode is the subject of a "deep investigation".

Dedonder pointed out that "at this stage and according to the available information, it would be the remains of Russian missiles and Ukrainian anti-aircraft missiles that hit Polish soil".

The minister stressed that according to the available data "there is nothing to indicate that it was a deliberate attack against one or more Polish targets".

Dedonder pointed out that various analyzes are still underway to determine "both the origin of the shots and the objectives that these missiles had to reach".

The minister regretted the statement that the episode left two people dead, and offered her condolences "to the families of the victims and to the Polish people".
