Four people were hurt in an explosion at a US military base in Japan. The blast happened at a weapons storage area inside the Kadena Air Base in Okinawa.
This storage area is used by Japan’s Self-Defense Forces. It’s where they keep old World War II bombs that haven’t been disposed of yet. The injured people were taken to the hospital with burn injuries.
The explosion occurred while personnel were preparing to dispose of old bombs. Local police are investigating the incident. They think it was an old World War II bomb that went off.
Okinawa is a place where many undetonated bombs from World War II are still found. The Japanese Self-Defense Forces are in charge of safely disposing of these old bombs.
According to Japan’s Defense Ministry, this is the first time since 1974 that someone has been hurt while trying to dispose of a bomb.
