Ex-FC Porto Goalkeeper Helton Arrested for Illegal Firearm, Released Pending Trial

This dramatic turn didn’t happen by chance. A search warrant led officers to Helton’s door. It followed serious accusations of domestic violence. These claims came from a woman who said she had a secret, ten-year relationship with the former Brazilian international. She was the one who told police about the weapon hidden in his house.

Helton offered his own explanation to the authorities. He claimed the firearm belonged to a man named Mário Rui Maia, who has since passed away. Helton knew Mário from his church. Mário had supposedly visited Helton’s home studio to record music. While there, Mário allegedly saw his friend “was armed” and asked him to hold onto his revolver. The reason? “For family protection,” Helton told police.

After giving his statement, the former player was released. ‘Público’ confirmed this development. Helton now awaits trial under strict terms. He must keep authorities updated on his identity and where he lives.
