EWC Riyadh Hosts PUBG Mobile World Cup Finals: $3M Prize, August 1-3

The biggest mobile esports event is on the horizon. The PUBG MOBILE World Cup (PMWC) 2025 finals will take place soon. From August 1st to 3rd, 16 top teams from around the world will battle it out. This major competition is part of the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Over three days, teams will play 18 intense matches.

Fans hoping to see their favorite Brazilian squads will be disappointed. All three Brazilian teams, INTENSE GAME, INFLUENCE RAGE, and the former champions Alpha7 Esports, were knocked out. They failed to make it past the survival stage. So, a new world champion will be crowned this year.

How the PMWC Finals Work

The PMWC 2025 finals gather 16 teams. Eight teams advanced from the group stage. The other eight fought their way through the survival stage on July 30th and 31st. All games will use a standard points system. However, there’s a cool new twist called the SMASH system. This system activates a new theme song, “Smash!”, when a team is just one win away from clinching the title early.

Here’s how the SMASH Rules work:

  • Teams play as usual until one reaches a target score called “match point.”
  • This match point is figured out like this: the points of the 1st place team after the 12th match, plus an extra 10 points.
  • Once a team hits match point, they become eligible to win.
  • From that point, the first eligible team to get a “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” (WWCD) will be crowned the champion.
  • A maximum of six matches will be played after a team becomes eligible. If no one wins by getting a WWCD during this time, the team with the most points at the very end wins the championship.

Teams in the Final Showdown

Here are the 16 teams ready to battle for the championship:

  • Horaa Esports
  • Fire Flux Esports
  • POWR Esports
  • Regnum Carya
  • eArena
  • NS RedForce
  • Team Falcons
  • Yangon Galacticos
  • Alter Ego Ares
  • 4Thrives Esports
  • DRX
  • Weibo Gaming
  • Alpha Gaming
  • Team Secret
  • TT Global
  • IDA Esports

Horaa Esports was a standout performer in the Survival Stage, topping the scoreboard with 108 points. Other teams like Fire Flux Esports and POWR Esports also showed strong, steady play. The biggest surprise, though, was seeing the current champions, Alpha7 Esports, exit the competition early. They just couldn’t make it to the finals.
