Everton’s Goodison Park to be Repurposed as Permanent Home for Women’s Team

Goodison Park, Everton’s home for 132 years, was slated for demolition after the 2024/2025 season. The Toffees are moving to the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, also known as Everton Stadium, next season. But the club announced new plans on Tuesday.

The club’s men’s team, featuring players like João Virgínia and Youssef Chermiti, is still set to move to the new 52,000-capacity stadium. The current stadium holds 39,572 spectators. However, Goodison Park will now become the permanent home of Everton’s women’s team, which plays in the top English division.

The decision to keep Goodison Park was made after the club was sold to the Friedkin group late last year. The new owners decided to keep football at the heart of the Everton community. This means the stadium won’t be turned into a mixed-use development with apartments, a nursing home, and shops, as initially planned.

A New Era for Everton Women

Goodison Park will become the largest stadium in England dedicated solely to a women’s team. Everton Women currently play at Walton Hall Park, which has a capacity of 2,200, with only 500 seated. The move to Goodison Park will be a significant upgrade.

The club’s announcement was made on Twitter:

The change is a nod to the club’s history and a boost for the women’s team. Goodison Park is the first purpose-built football stadium in England, and it will now become a landmark for the Women’s Super League.
