Einer Rubio celebrated his 25th birthday in style. The Movistar cyclist prevailed on the third day of the UAE Tour after an attack in the last kilometers. The Colombian achieved victory in Arab territory after separating from the group and leaving rivals like Adam Yates and Remco Evenepoel on the road. After his triumph in a demanding mountain day that included 185 kilometers, the Belgian, who is the leader in the general classification, left a message on social networks congratulating the boyacense.
“The first in the mountains and another good day for us, becoming the leaders of the general. Congratulations and happy birthday Einer Rubio”, published Evenepoel on his Twitter account.
After the third stage of the race, the winner of La Vuelta 2022 had already mentioned Rubio for the effort made to gain a 14-second lead over his pursuers. The Belgian highlighted that the Movistar cyclist had an “impressive” race.
“I think that with my sprint I could have won the stage, but in the end, the red ‘jersey’ is a very nice reward for the team. Einer Rubio has had an impressive career, so we congratulate him and I think it is his birthday present ”said the Belgian.
Rubio celebrates his first title as a professional
After winning the mountain stage of the UAE Tour, Einer Rubio became the second Colombian to win a stage in this race after Fernando Gaviria in 2019. In addition, it was his first win since the Giro d’Italia Sub 23 4 years agoso this victory meant the first since he turned professional.
