Evaluate the development of nautical tourism

The minister of the presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla, highlighted the importance of create the conditions so that nautical tourism in the Dominican Republic flourish to its full potential.

“You have to try, in some way, to make the experience of having a boat in this country a pleasant one, and that cannot be achieved if there is no qualified workforce, the marina properly maintained and the necessary security. There are many things that we have to create, ”she indicated.

The minister spoke during his attendance at the discussion “La Dolce Vita in the DR: Development of the nautical industry and its infrastructures”, in which experts spoke about the conditions that the country has to develop this branch of tourism.

Of 7,000 ships a year that sail along the north coastonly 800 can stop at one of the seven mooring points that meet the physical characteristics for pleasure boats.

In total, the country has 2,300 mooring points. Each pleasure yacht that stops in Dominican territory leaves approximately US$8,000 per month for current expenses, to which maintenance, insurance and employees are added, the experts detailed during the activity.

Macarrulla affirmed that the Government is fully willing to develop this type of business in the country.
