Eurobasket 2023: 24 Teams Qualified, Raffle Set for March 27 in Riga Latvia

The 24 teams set to compete in the Eurobasket are now confirmed, despite a few remaining matches from the last day of the FIBA windows taking place on Monday. These teams include Spain and the hosts Latvia, as well as Cyprus, Poland, Finland, Slovenia, Israel, Portugal, Italy, Iceland, Turkey, Belgium, Montenegro, Sweden, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Great Britain, Serbia, Georgia, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Notably, the last two teams are led by Spanish coaches, with Álex Mumbrú guiding Germany and Diego Ocampo at the helm of the Czech Republic.

The Qualified Teams

The list of qualified teams is quite extensive, featuring a mix of seasoned contenders and underdogs. Spain, Latvia, Cyprus, Poland, and Finland have all secured their spots, alongside Slovenia, Israel, Portugal, Italy, Iceland, Turkey, Belgium, Montenegro, Sweden, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Great Britain, Serbia, Georgia, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

The Road to the Eurobasket

The raffle for the tournament is scheduled to take place on March 27 in Riga, the capital of Latvia, which will also host the final phase of the championship. The teams will be divided into groups based on their FIBA ranking, which will be updated after the current windows. Prior to these matches, Spain held the sixth position and was the fourth-best selection in Europe, following Serbia, Germany, and France.

The draw will have certain conditions, as each host will have the opportunity to choose a team to share a group with in the first phase. This adds an extra layer of complexity to the competition, as teams will need to navigate their group stage matches before advancing to the next round. The Eurobasket is set to begin on August 27 and will conclude on September 14.
