Ethereum (ETH) Founder Vitalik Buterin Named Time Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential People

Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum (ETH), has been named one of the most influential figures of 2021 by Time magazine. The well-known American weekly magazine published the latest edition of the top 100 yesterday.

“What makes Vitalik so special is that he is a real developer. No one could think of all the uses for Ethereum, but it did take the idea of one person to get it going. From there, a new world has opened up and new ways of leveraging blockchain technology have emerged.

I’ve never been more excited about the potential of the internet, and that’s largely thanks to Vitalik Buterin.”

According to Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit. Buterin launched Ethereum in 2015 after failing to smart contracts on Bitcoin (BTC). Since then, Ethereum has grown into a network of its own with thousands of applications. Ether, the cryptocurrency of the Ethereum network, now has a market capitalization of $425 billion, making it one of the top 20 largest assets in the world.

And that’s just ether, there are hundreds of other crypto on Ethereum as well. For example, last year the new decentralized finance (DeFi) sector exploded on Ethereum and this year the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). In fact, this may just be the beginning for Ethereum. The network is currently in a major move to Ethereum 2.0 and proof of stake (PoS), which should make the blockchain faster and more secure.

Buterin is not the only person from the Time top 100 who is connected with crypto. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is also being named, especially for his SpaceX projects, but his tweets also had a big impact on the price of bitcoin and of course that of dogecoin (DOGE) this year.

Also named is Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador, who recently introduced the controversial bitcoin law in his country. And Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, whose video cards are popular for mining and a huge crypto fan himself.

Time magazine itself also embraced crypto this year. The company has been accepting crypto payments since April and is holding bitcoin after partnering with Grayscale Investmtents.
