Estoril ATP 250: Báez beat Ramos Viñolas and will play the final against

The Argentine tennis player Sebastián Báez beat the Spanish Albert Ramos Viñolas 6-3, 6-7 (7-9) and 6-0 this Saturday and reached the final of the Estoril tournament, in Portugal, where he will try to win the first ATP title of his career.

The native of San Martín gave a new blow by eliminating the current champion of the contest in a match that lasted 2 hours and 34 minutes and this Sunday at 11:30 (Argentina time) the American Frances Tiafoe will be measured in the final, who eliminated his compatriot Sebastián Korda 4-6 7-6 (2) 6-4.

The match was not easy for the 21-year-old Argentine who showed solid tennis in the first set to win 6-3, but in the second he failed to repeat (5-7) despite reversing a 1-5 lead in the tie break, in which he had two match points that he did not know how to take advantage of.

Despite the good performance of the experienced Ramos Viñolas; Báez brought out his best performance and with an extraordinary version of himself, he gave him a categorical 6-0 that deposited him in the final.

The Argentine reaches the final after an interesting journey in Estoril, where he eliminated the Grand Slam and Davis Cup champion, Cilic, as well as leaving behind the winner of 15 ATP tournaments -and also Davis Cup champion- Gasquet and now he eliminated the defending champion.

For his part, Báez, once his victory was over, commented: “I had chances in the tie break of the second set to win and I didn’t take advantage of them; my nerves played a bit, but these things happen in tennis.”

“Luckily physically, it benefited me to go to the third set and I was able to move forward. Now I want to recover in the best possible way and I hope to do better this Sunday. There are still things to do,” he concluded in statements quoted by the newspaper La Nation.

It will be the second ATP final for Báez, who entered the ATP final in Santiago de Chile last February, after just beating Ramos Viñolas, and in that instance he could not beat the Spanish Pedro Martínez.
