Deportivo Sign Veteran Defender Escudero

The Spanish football club Deportivo have announced the signing of defender Alejandro Escudero on a two-year contract, with the option to extend until 2026.

Escudero, formerly of Real Valladolid, joins Deportivo after a successful career that has seen him win two Europa League titles, the German Cup, and the German Super Cup. The 33-year-old full-back has played a total of 541 matches in his professional career, including stints with Schalke 04, Getafe CF, Sevilla FC, Granada CF, and Real Valladolid.

Escudero played a key role in Real Valladolid’s promotion to LaLiga last season, serving as one of the team’s captains. He has also played 218 matches in LaLiga EA Sports, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists, as well as playing 61 matches in LaLiga Hypermotion, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists.

The arrival of Escudero comes as the Deportivo club look to reinforce their defensive options, with the current squad lacking depth and options. The club’s sporting director, Fernando Soriano, stated that the full-back position is one of the areas where the team needs to improve.

"I think it’s one of the most exposed positions we have on the defensive side, and we hope to find a solution soon," Soriano said. "We are going to move forward and complete positions. There are options, Escudero is one of them, and we will see in a day or two the decision that is made."

While Escudero’s signing represents a significant boost to Deportivo’s defensive options, the club remains on the hunt for a goalkeeper who can compete with Germán Parreño and Alberto Puerto.

"We are going to reinforce the goal. There are Germán, Eric, and Alberto, who will compete with Fabril and help the first team. But the idea is to sign another goalkeeper," Soriano said. The market is open, and the club is exploring options to strengthen their forward line as well. "We are looking at options for the forward line that can improve us. Always wanting to give the coach the best conditions. But there is still preseason left."

The addition of Escudero to Deportivo’s squad represents a significant statement of intent from the club, and fans will be eagerly awaiting further developments regarding the team’s transfer plans for the summer.
