Escobar and Marte homer, Carrasco wins the ninth and Mets beat Texas

Eduardo Escobar homered for the third straight game, Carlos Carrasco rebounded from a pair of poor starts and the New York Mets beat the Texas Rangers 4-1 on Sunday.

Starling Marte homered for the second straight day and Jeff McNeil hit an RBI double to help the NL East leaders win two of three in the interleague series, giving them 15 wins in their last 20 home games.

The win was the 1,600th as a major league manager for Buck Showalter, who beat one of his former teams to pass Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda for 22nd place.

Jonah Heim homered for the second straight day for the Rangers, his 12th of the season. He started the day tied with Atlanta’s Travis d’Arnaud for the most in the majors by a catcher.

Carrasco (9-4) struck out eight and walked one in 5 2/3 innings. He was coming off consecutive losses to Houston, which had a total of 11 runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

For the Mets, Dominican Starling Marte 2-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor 4-0. Venezuelans Eduardo Escobar 4-1 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Luis Guillorme 3-1.

For the Rangers, the Cuban Adolis García 4-0. Dominican Leody Taveras 2-0.
