Escandell is already yellow

Aarón Escandell, born in Carcaixent (1995), will join UD Las Palmas for the next two seasons. The player arrives on transfer from FC Cartagena, where he played an outstanding role last season, participating in 36 games in the Second Division with the black and white colors.

The fourth yellow addition of the summer, after Javi Muñoz, Cristian Herrera, Sinkgraven, caught the attention of the sports management with brilliant performances in his last stage at the Cartagonova. The 27-year-old goalkeeper became the undisputed owner of the goal, leaving the hero of promotion to the Second Division in the 2020/21 season, Marc Martínez, who had been a key player in the previous two seasons, forgotten.

Escandell made his debut with FC Cartagena at the albinegro stadium, against Albacete. That game marked a point and aside, the 2-1 victory against the La Mancha team, in an exhibition by Escandell, was enough for Carrión to give him continuity in the position. From that moment he became indisputable. His skills include great footwork, bravery in the air and feline reflexes, which have become his hallmarks.

Before his time at FC Cartagena, the goalkeeper wore the shirt of another recently promoted to the First Division, Granada. During five seasons, Escandell played a total of 13 matches with the Nasrid first team in the top flight. Before his arrival at Los Cármenes, the goalkeeper trained at Atlético Malagueño, where he took his last steps before entering professionalism.

The negotiation has lasted several weeks and from the first moment the Cartagena entity knew that it was in a position of power, but never inflexibly. “He is a player with a contract and we are very happy with him, we would like him to continue”, advanced Manuel Sánchez Breis, sports general director, in the presentation of Víctor Sánchez del Amo as coach. “We know what its clause is and nobody has called the club to pay for it”, he anticipated but adding a possibility of leaving “if something irresistible arrives”. And it came.

Now UD Las Palmas has three goalkeepers, Valles, undisputed starter last season, Dominguez, who demonstrated his great abilities when the Sevillian goalkeeper had to undergo surgery, and Aaron Escandell. Everything points to a possible departure for the second, which was advanced by the president last week.
