Visa Issues for England Cricketer Saqib Mahmood Ahead of India Tour
England Team Prepares for India Tour Amid Visa Uncertainty
The England cricket team is set to embark on a five-match T20 series against India, starting January 22. However, one of their key players, Saqib Mahmood, is facing visa issues that may impact his participation in the series. The team is scheduled to set up a training camp in Abu Dhabi before arriving in India, but Mahmood’s visa status remains uncertain.
Pakistani Origin Cited as Reason for Visa Delay
According to reports, Mahmood’s Pakistani origin is believed to be the reason for the delay in his visa application. This is not the first instance of English players of Pakistani origin facing visa issues. Last year, Shoaib Bashir experienced similar difficulties, which resulted in him missing the first Test against India.
ECB Remains Hopeful of Mahmood’s Participation
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Mahmood’s visa, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) remains hopeful that he will receive his visa in time for the series. The board has not commented on the matter, but it is understood that they are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Other Players of Pakistani Origin Receive Visas
Meanwhile, two other English players of Pakistani origin, Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed, have received their visas and will join the team in India. This has raised hopes that Mahmood’s visa issue will be resolved soon.
Saqib Mahmood’s Cricket Career
Saqib Mahmood, 27, has played 29 matches for England, including 18 T20 Internationals and 9 ODIs. He has taken 18 wickets in T20Is and 14 wickets in ODIs. Mahmood is also part of the ODI team and is scheduled to play in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
