England test captain Ben Stokes said: who is the best goalkeeper in the world

Ben Stokes on Ben Foakes: England Test captain Ben Stokes named Ben Fox the best wicketkeeper in the world as the 29-year-old made some excellent catches during the first Test at Lord’s and then patiently batted into the New led by Kane Williamson. But Zeeland guided the hosts to a five-wicket victory. Fox’s stay in the crease in the opening session of Test day four was crucial as England lost five wickets on day three and were still a few races away from winning. The wicketkeeper-batsman forged a winning partnership with Joe Root (115 not out).

Stokes supported Fox ahead of the second test in Nottingham from June 10, saying: “We are not in a position to select world-class players at the moment, because Ben Fox is the best goalkeeper in the world.

“It’s not just my opinion, it’s the opinion of a lot of people,” Stokes told the Mirror. He further said, “Having a wicketkeeper like Ben Fox behind the stumps gives me a lot of confidence and it gives the bowlers a lot of confidence.”

The England test captain also expressed hope that Fox would improve with time. Stokes said: “The more confident he is, the better he’ll get. Like I said, he’s the best goalkeeper in the world and it’s great to see him behind the stumps.”

Fox’s return to the Test team came from Jos Buttler’s poor Ashes series. Buttler was ruled out of the three-test Caribbean tour after a 0-4 loss to England in Australia, and Fox teamed up with Root in the Lord’s Test, where the two shared an unbeaten 120-run standing.
