English players wearing each other’s name shirt
England cricketers expressed their support for people living with dementia by wearing shirts with the wrong name on them at the start of the third day of the fifth and final Test cricket match. Veteran fast bowler James Anderson wore a jersey bearing the name of fellow fast bowler Stuart Broad, while Jonny Bairstow’s jersey bore the name of captain Ben Stokes. Moeen Ali wore the jersey named after Chris Woakes and similarly other cricketers swapped their jerseys.
Actions Taken Due to Dementia
This effort by England cricketers was to make people aware of the state of confusion that dementia patients go through. The memory of a person suffering from dementia is gone. England assistant manager Marcus Trescothick explained the decision made on the ECB call. Trescothick told Sky Sports: “We are here to support the Alzheimer’s Society and it is an issue very close to our hearts. It is a terrible disease.
He said that we want to raise awareness among people about this disease and also raise funds. The more money is raised and the more awareness is created among the people, the more research will be done on this disease. Former England opener Trescothick also has a personal reason for joining the effort. His father Martin suffers from dementia.
