England: a tiny and exceptional golden Bible discovered

Buffy Bailey, a nurse living in Lancaster, in the north of England, recently discovered a small gold bible during a metal-detecting session on farmland near York.

The 600-year-old object is only 1.5 cm long. It weighs only 5 grams and is made of 22 or 24 karat gold.

But, after expertise, this little bible would be “exceptionally unique” and would have belonged “to someone incredibly rich”, perhaps to a member of the family of King Richard III.

As a result, it could be worth more than 100,000 pounds sterling, or more than 116,000 euros.

Engraved with images of Saint Leonard and Saint Margaret, patroness of women in childbirth, this precious object could also have been used as protection during pregnancy and childbirth, experts say.
