Energy: United Arab Emirates to supply Germany with liquefied gas and diesel

During a visit by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Abu Dhabi on Sunday, September 25, the United Arab Emirates and Germany signed an agreement providing for the supply in 2022 and 2023 of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and diesel . The Emirati Minister of Industry welcomed a “historic new agreement”. Olaf Scholz has him “greeted” an agreement on the “energy security”.

The German leader began this tour of the Gulf countries in the hope of sealing new partnerships to replace Russian supplies and alleviate the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. On Saturday, Olaf Scholz went to Saudi Arabia and he was to fly out on Sunday during the day for the Qatar, a gas-rich country.

According to the Wam news agency, the Emirati state oil company ADNOC made its first ever direct delivery of diesel to Germany in September and “will supply up to 250,000 tons of diesel per month in 2023”. The agreement also provides for the export of a shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Germany at the end of 2022, then the supply of additional quantities in 2023.
