Employment will continue to improve in Europe in 2022

(AOF) – The situation on the labor market should continue to improve in Europe, confirmed the European Commission on the occasion of the presentation of its economic forecasts for spring 2022. In the European Union, employment should increase by 1.2% this year, although this annual growth rate is mainly due to the strong momentum observed in the second half of last year. It was previously expected to increase by 1%.

“People fleeing the war in Ukraine should only enter the labor market gradually, and the concrete effects will only be visible from next year”, specifies Brussels.

Unemployment rates are expected to continue falling, reaching 6.7% in 2022 and 6.5% in 2023 in the European Union, and 7.3% in 2022 and 7% in 2023 in the euro area. Previous estimates for the EU were 7.5% and 7.3% respectively.
