Sri Lanka has been hit by a severe economic crisis that has forced workers to work four days a week in the office and the rest of the day in the fields.
The decision has been taken by the government to increase food production in the country and will only apply to government employees. All employees except the Department of Education and Health will be on leave on Friday.

In addition to essential services such as education and health, Friday will be a public holiday, and employees will be encouraged to work in agriculture to increase food production, according to a statement issued by the cabinet.
On the other hand, the cabinet has also decided that government employees who wish to go abroad for work will be given five years unpaid leave.
According to the report, on the return of government employees going abroad for work, they will get benefits of promotion or retirement.
