Elon Musk’s legal team just made a bold move. Lawyers for the SpaceX and Tesla boss asked a US judge to stop OpenAI from getting certain documents. These papers are reportedly about Meta Platforms’ interest in buying parts of OpenAI.
OpenAI revealed last week that Musk himself once tried to team up with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The goal was to acquire OpenAI. But Zuckerberg reportedly turned down the offer. After this information came out, OpenAI asked the judge to make Meta hand over documents and communications about a potential deal. Meta, however, wants the judge to reject OpenAI’s request. They argued OpenAI should ask Musk and his company, xAI, for such documents directly.
Court records show Musk’s lawyers claimed OpenAI already has plenty of documents about acquisition offers from Musk and xAI. They feel OpenAI’s broad request for even more documents is not relevant to the current court case. OpenAI’s lawyers strongly disagreed, stating the document request is absolutely relevant to the proceedings.
This latest legal fight is just one part of a much larger, ongoing battle between Musk and OpenAI. Their conflict has been simmering for years. It has already led to more than two lawsuits between the two sides.
