Elon Musk, never one to shy away from big ideas, has introduced his latest venture. He announced a new artificial intelligence company named “Macrohard.” This project falls under his xAI umbrella. Its goal is ambitious: to build a software company run entirely by AI, aiming squarely at market giant Microsoft.
Musk recently made waves across the tech world. He used his platform, X, to share news about Macrohard. The name itself is a clear nod to Microsoft, designed to sound strikingly similar.
Musk explained the thinking behind Macrohard. He pointed out that major software firms like Microsoft do not actually make their own hardware. This fact, he believes, means AI could theoretically mimic a whole software company. The plan is to automate every step, from writing code to putting out new products.
The Macrohard project will operate as part of xAI, Musk’s AI company. He has been talking about building a “multi-agent AI software company” since July 2025. This vision involves hundreds of AI agents working together smoothly. These agents would handle tasks like writing code, creating images, and processing videos.
Musk is serious about this new company. He registered the “Macrohard” trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on August 1st. The filing covers many AI-powered products and services. These include software that creates speech and text, along with chatbots that can hold real-sounding conversations.
