Elon Musk Founds ‘America Party’ After Fallout with Donald Trump

The world of politics just got a new, unexpected player. Elon Musk, known for leading tech giants Tesla and SpaceX and being the richest person on Earth, announced Saturday, July 5, 2025, that he is forming a new political group. He calls it the “America Party.”

Musk shared his big news on X, the social media platform he owns. He says this new party will directly challenge the long-standing two-party system in the United States. It’s a bold claim from someone who usually focuses on rockets and electric cars.

This sudden political move comes after a very public disagreement between Musk and former President Donald Trump. Their friction led to Musk stepping away from a government advisory role. They even exchanged harsh words online about a recent spending bill from Mr. Trump’s administration. Musk had warned that the bill would dangerously increase the nation’s budget deficit.

Before making his official announcement, Musk used X to gauge public opinion. He ran a poll asking his many followers if a new political party was needed in the United States. Referencing the poll’s outcome, Musk posted, “By a 2-to-1 margin, you wanted a new political party, and you shall have it!”

Musk didn’t hold back in his criticism of the existing political setup. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with wasteful spending and bribery, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” he declared. He then added, “Today, the America Party has been formed to give you freedom.”

However, questions quickly arose about the practical next steps. It remains unclear if Musk has officially registered his “America Party” with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). As of that Saturday, no official documents for the party had appeared in FEC records. Musk also did not share details about who would lead the party or what its structure would look like.
